Winter at Gracehill Bed and Breakfast

Gracehill Gazette

Happenings at this Smoky Mountain B&B Your Innkeeper Kathy

There has been a two year gap between the last of my 1200 handwritten Christmas cards to bringing my first e-newsletter to fruition.  Praise the powers that be for the changes in communication. And yes, Mom and I are alive and kicking, just not kicking as high. I had both knees replaced!  I'll be brief.  The Gracehill Gazette will be sent six times a year, consisting of one article, a favorite recipe and a list of upcoming community events.  You can click on the links to the right and follow us on Twitter or Facebook (I update Facebook once or twice a week for current events) or click on the RSS feed that will subscribe you to our blog which I update a couple times a month with articles on what is happening at the B&B and locally.

Living Room Ceiling MuralFor the first time in ten years, we closed for two months this winter.  I couldn't have picked a better year to do it!  By choice, we've let ourselves be snowed in several times and, yes, enjoyed the incredible beauty of it all.  We took the down time to tackle several projects including painting the dome ceiling in the living room. Click here for the full story.  We open again on March 18th, and will be keeping the road open for any guests AND snowfalls after that time.

I've just returned from PAII, the annual national B&B conference in Austin, TX and am implementing several new ideas which I'll talk about in forthcoming issues.  Last year, after the conference, we spent two months doing a total redesign of our website.  The ideas this year have a little faster turn around time!  See you soon with...

2010 WBIR Best B&B in East Tennessee

We have tried a lot of new recipes this year, and I have to say, that for coffee cakes, this was my favorite new recipe in terms of taste and ease of preparation.

It  makes 20 little pieces, or ten very generous servings.  It can be made in a bundt pan, or put 4 little pieces in 5 ramekins.  Freeze them, and when you want "coffee cake for two," take a ramekin out of the freezer, bake it off, and indulge!  Many thanks go to Barbara Leach for sharing this recipe.  For all our website recipes, click here!
